Minju Kim is a Seoul-based contemporary designer specializing in women's wear. Minju has become a globally respected designer that has transcended beyond Korean fashion because of her exemplary win and global debut on Netflix’s Next in Fashion competition. Minju further continues to maintain global attention through her whimsical collections and custom celebrity garments. Through her brand, MINJUKIM, Minju solidifies her rare perspective by intertwining Korean fashion's minimalism with her playful mindset. So, let's break down the components defining Minju’s alluring designs!
--------------------------
1. Voluminous Silhouettes:In order to stylishly incorporate comfort and delicate femininity. Minju designs garments that tend to include puffy sleeves, loose skirts, wide silhouettes and ruffles. Which expresses a soft appearance on her clients and models. In fact, Minju has used
Korean hanboks as inspiration for her loose silhouettes.
2. Bold Patterns: Minju thoughtfully experiments with creating her own motifs. For instance, Minju's recent creation of motifs inspired by traditional Korean patterns (1st image below) exemplifies her artistic capabilities. Due to Minju’s fascination for fine art in her earlier designing days, it now allows Minju to continuously push the boundaries on what prints could cohesively work in her collections.
3. Playful Colors:
Along with Minju’s other design elements. Minju allows color to play a significant role within her garments. Various colors convey Minju’s lighthearted essence through her pastel, neutral and bold color palettes. Depending on which collection, certain palettes contain diverse shades of blue, yellow, green, red, blush pink, etc. in order to encapsulate her themes.
4. Unique Fabrics:
Similar to Minju’s motifs, MINJUKIM also creates some of their fabrics in-house. Thus, Minju utilizes various fabrics consisting of quilted textiles, dainty ribbon, shimmery silk and flowy chiffon to create her elegant looks.
